Making the Circle Cut
Find the center point of the square workpiece that is at least 1/4 inch larger than the diameter of the circle you need.
Find the center
point by drawing diagonals from the corners and marking their intersection.
At this point, either use a circle
cutting fixture that has predefined distances, or do something similar
as in the video to the right. Obviously, if you have the time, building a
jig will be provide more accurate and consistent circles if multiples need
to be built.
Proceed to cut the corners off, until a circle is achieved.
Dadoing the Circle
In addition, a further step that can be accomplished while using the same setup is to dado the perimeter of the circle. (Another reason to build an adjustable circle cutting jig.)
By lowering the blade below the height of the workpiece, and moving the center of the circle closer to the blade, you can create a dado on the edge of your newly created circle.
