Using the Band Saw
There are several types of saws used in the workshop. The radial saw is primarily a saw to cut across the grain (cutting). A miter saw is a circular saw used to cut tabs or size lengths of small parts. The jigsaw, with a thin blade is used for cutting curves. We deal here with the band saw.
When combined with many kinds of blades of different widths, the band saw is the ideal tool for cutting, slitting and the cutting assembly. It is perfect for shaping and irregular shapes. If possible, when looking to purchase a band saw, consult with people who own one. You'll be able to make an informed decision based on the normal work and the space you have.
Two parameters are considered in making your choice. The distance from the platform of the guide blade in the up position. Most band saws small size should not be used for cutting pieces exceeding 15 cm thick. The second parameter is the width of passage, ie the distance between the blade and the amount of housing. For non-professionals, with a width of 35 cm is sufficient.
Most of the band saw, of course, is the blade. The smaller the tool and consequently the blade, the more often the blade must be changed from wear. When properly positionedand tensioned, the band saw makes cuts with great precision. If you work with a dull blade or badly tensioned blade, you will have difficulty maintaining a cut along a straight line.
There are blades of different widths, adjustable on most machines. Some band saws accept a small blade of 6 mm wide for example. The smaller the width the better it is for cutting curves. Each blade has differeing TPI (Teeth Per Inch: number of teeth per inch). Use teeth suitable for the wood..
The larger the space, or trough, between the teeth, the better the blade for cutting harder wood. The trough allows for the wood chips to be carried away more easily.
The most frequent accidents when using the band saw is caused by contact with the working part of the blade. The main causes of these are sawing small pieces, sawing wood split, poor adjustment of the guide blade above, loss of balance and fatigue ...!
To avoid direct contact with moving parts (pulleys, shafts, belts ...), waiting for the complete shutdown of the machine before opening the housings. Before carrying out maneuvers to adjust the device or changing the blade, it is essential to remove the band saw and test it with the OFF button, so that it can not function. In addition, electrical installations must comply with regulations. These standards are contained in the instructions of the merchant.
To avoid various projections or fires caused by sawdust and wood chips, avoid the accumulation of waste using a suction device such as a shop vacuum, if you do not pick up-sawdust.
Before turning on your bandsaw, turn on your concentration!
