FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AWFS® Fair to Host the National Championship Belt Sanders Race
CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif.  (June 15, 2009)  The Association of
Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS®) will host the Belt Sander Racing
Association (BSRA) National Championship Race at AWFS®Fair this summer in Las
Vegas. The final race will take place Thursday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m.

In 2008, the qualified racers for the National Championship race competed in seven
regional races across North America for a chance to race in the finals at the Las
Vegas Convention Center. They competed in Stock or Modified classes. The Modified
class gives racers the option to alter their belt sander’s motor, drive system and
electric systems. Belt Sander Racers in both classes are encouraged to dress up and
decorate their belt sanders. The sanders zip down a 75 foot race track consisting of
two lanes and modified belt sanders can reach speeds over 17mph.

A single entrant can enter up to two sanders and a shop may enter multiple sanders.
At the race track each sander may be supported by a pit crew of two people.

Trophies will be given to the first, second and third place finishers. Additional
awards to be handed out for Best Design and Judge’s Choice, which could go to the
biggest wreck. Prizes are also given out to lucky audience members.

“In 2007, our bleachers were full and we had standing room crowds of 10 people
deep,” said Marguerite Hoffman, VP Trade Shows, AWFS. “These races are
something like you have never seen before- especially at a tradeshow. It is a great
way for our attendees and exhibitors to let loose and have some fun!”

The full-scale international AWFS®Fair, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 –
Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Las Vegas, has become a critical hub for international
commerce in the woodworking industry. The AWFS®Fair brings together the entire
home and commercial furnishings industry, including manufacturers and
distributors of machinery, hardware, lumber, construction materials and other
suppliers to the furniture, cabinet manufacturers and custom woodworkers.
