Abrasive:
A hard, tough material used to smooth out rough surfaces; a common abrasive is sandpaper.

Adhesive: A substance that is capable of bonding other materials to each other.

Air Drying: Method for drying lumber that permits stacks of sawn wood to dry naturally in the open air.

Aniline Dye: A synthetic dye used in the production of wood stains. In woodworking, the tern is used generically to mean any soluable wood dye.

Animal Glue: Protein based wood glue made from the skins and bones of animals.

Arbor: Part of a machine to which the blade is attched that is driven by the motor.

Asphaltum: A wood stain that is produces by mixing ground gilsonite in oil. Can be deleted with mineral spirits.

Awl: Pointed tool (that looks like a small ice pick), useful for marking layout lines a project.
