Wood turning is a specialized
discipline within woodworking. Unless you are fabricating products
for clients that require turned items very often, it is highly recommended
that you subcontract out any demand that you may have.
The equipment needed for producing high quality woodturnings is
somewhat expensive, and if it is not in constant use, it will take
up valuable floor space.
Secondly, most woodworkers are not specifically trained to use a
lathe either. Even though many woodworkers that have taken training
through a school have had some experience turning on a wood lathe,
they are not practiced enough to do this task professionally.
Additionally, a shop that specializes in wood turning will most
likely have use of a CNC lathe, or other sophisticated lathes that
can produce multiple copies at one time.
Bottom line is that you should find yourself a reliable wood turning
specialist, one that has the quality you are looking for, and delivers
on time.
